CAN’T QUIT SMOKING? SOME TIPS THAT MAY HELP U!

CAN’T QUIT SMOKING? SOME TIPS THAT MAY HELP U!

I am writing such a blog for the first time. For it is not significant only for people addicted to smoking BUT more significantly for people around them.

“I TRIED QUITTING BUT COULDN’T”– We all must have heard it at-least once. BUT YES, it is actually difficult to quit because of a number of WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS that follows. SMOKING IS ADDICTION; BRAIN GETS HOOKED TO NICOTINE and when when we try to discontinue it leads to DEVELOPMENT OF WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS.

There are measures available and commonly known to us that help people quit like:

  1. Quit Smoking Classes And Counselling Sessions – Focus on coping strategies to withdrawal symptoms
  2. Medications – That curb craving and makes smoking less satisfying. Certain drugs ease withdrawal symptoms like depression or difficult concentration
  3. Nicotine Replacement Therapy – In form of gums and lozenges that are supposed to act like nicotine during discontinuation

BUT, SUCH MEASURES DON’T HELP ALONE QUITE OFTEN

There are persons who cannot help quitting even with these, along with what they need is BEHAVIORAL THERAPIES and SUPPORT  of their near and dear ones. There has been rise in awareness about role of people around you specailly if your trying hard to quit smoking.

This is what I wanted to convey. Yes, you can help even your peers quit smoking. If you are wondering how, let me try to put some light on that

  1. Motivating – A strong reason of motivation encourages a person to discontinue smoking and to cope with withdrawal symptoms. Usually, fear of diseases that can develop because of smoking motivates a person to quit. BUT, PEOPLE AROUND CAN BE A VERY STRONG SOURCE OF MOTIVATION TOO. Peers not only motivates but also helps a person in coping withdrawal symptoms by keeping them involved & occupied in certain activities
  2. Adding Rewards – If a person is rewarded for his actions, it gives a boost to his performance. Similarly, people around can enhance their role by appreciating a person’s effort and by giving rewards
  3. Social Groups – It is well known that society affects our habits. It has also been found that people tend to suffer less if they are actively involved socially
  4. Exercises – Exercising increases body’s ability to combat nicotine addiction by making a lot of changes in body. It curbs nicotine cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms. After only 20 minutes, your heart rate goes back to normal. Within a day, your blood’s carbon monoxide level also falls back into place. In just 2-3 weeks, you will start to lower your odds of having a heart attack. In the long run, you will also lower your chance of getting lung cancer and other cancers.
